Our Story

Rescuing dogs, one tail wag at a time!

Dixie Girl Dog Rescue was originally inspired by my first Rescue, sweet “Dixie Girl” in 2006. Dixie's story started in a rural shelter, where she was an emaciated, overlooked, adult dog with existing injuries, facing daunting odds of making it out of the shelter alive. Despite what Dixie had endured in her life before me, her unconditional love and capacity for forgiveness was life-changing and instilled a deep desire to extend that same chance to other animals in need.

After years dedicated to rescuing, fostering, vetting, and placing animals with other rescue organizations, I decided it was time to make a bigger impact and in 2018 I started Dixie Girl Dog Rescue. Our mission has always been dedicated to finding forever families for unwanted, neglected, abused, and homeless dogs.  However, over the years, it has become abundantly clear that our secondary objective must be raising awareness of the critical issues of animal overpopulation and forwarding legislation for mandatory spay/neuter and animal welfare laws in the South.

Since 2018, Dixie Girl has grown exponentially, saving countless dogs, puppies, and cats from the dire circumstances that many animals are not fortunate enough to escape. All of our animals are completely vetted before adoption, which includes examinations, testing, spaying or neutering, age-appropriate vaccinations, preventatives, and microchipping. Many of these animals also require extensive medical attention and it should go without saying that the generous donations of many are the life support of the rescue.  However, the amount of animals we can help is and will always be, limited by the number of foster homes available to our animals.

We invite you to join us in continuing our mission, focused on helping the broken, broken-hearted, neglected, abandoned, and forgotten. We diligently seek committed fosters to provide a nurturing environment during the vetting process and while animals await their forever homes. Dixie Girl does not discriminate on breed or medical status but operates solely as a foster-based rescue.  Please consider fostering, adopting, sharing and supporting our efforts.
